The death of a 24-year-old man who attended Imagine Music Festival is currently under investigation.
According to reports, Fernando Rodriguez was confronted by police after leaving the event and was tased by multiple officers leading up to his death. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is heading up the case to determine whether force was a contributing factor.
The man was leaving the Atlanta Motor Speedway around 10 pm when someone called to report he had taken his clothes off. According to the GBI, when officers arrived on scene and approached Rodriguez, he became combative. He continued resisting and that’s when “multiple officers tased him.”
A spokesperson said: “He did go into medical distress. They attempted to respond to that. He was taken to the hospital and he later died as a result of what happened during that incident.”
The GBI is reviewing body cam footage from the incident and conducting an autopsy to determine exact cause of death. Testimony from witnesses will also be taken into consideration.
