Tomorrowland is known for bringing hundreds of artists to its festival every year, but what most people who don’t go don’t really take into account are the sixteen stages needed to house those artists. One stage is the Freedom Stage, this year home to Eric Prydz, Axwell, Armin van Buuren and more. As the festival prepares for its second weekend starting Friday, part of the ceiling of the structure has sunken in.
Festival spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen offered the following statement, “Around noon, part of the ceiling of the covered Freedom Stage sank. To be able to repair this, the tent will be closed to the visitors of the Tomorrowland [Neighborhood party]. The party will take place on another part of the site. No one was injured.”
The structure was in use during the week as it was open for a ‘Neighborhood Party’ to local residents of Boom. 
“We were in the other side of the tent when it happened,” says eyewitness Achiel Rypens. “We first heard a crackle and then we saw the lights coming off. They didn’t fall all the way down, but stuck. The people responsible for safety immediately cleared the room. I didn’t think there was much panic. For me, the party will continue as usual. ”
Hopefully it will be operational by the time the festival starts on Friday; if not, the acts will have to be relocated to another site. Your EDM has reached out to Wilmsen for additional comment and will update the story with any new information.
