The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, & Calvin Harris Land On Forbes Highest-Paid Entertainers 2019
Today, Forbes revealed its 2019 list for 100 Highest-Paid Entertainers in the world. The list includes athletes, musicians, actors, “personalities,” authors, comedians, and even one magician. The two top spots are taken by Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner, whose empires extend far beyond just one category.
As for EDM, only three artists made it on this year’s list: The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, & Calvin Harris.
For years, Calvin Harris has reigned atop all of Forbes’ cash kings lists when it comes to dance music producers and DJs, but clearly his lack of touring outside of Vegas residencies has caught up with him. The Chainsmokers and Marshmello are pulling in $46M and $40M respectively in 2019 so far, with Calvin Harris not far behind at $38.5M.
Marshmello’s 2-year residency with Kaos Nightclub worth $60 million surely helped him here, while The Chainsmokers continue to get booked everywhere and put up huge streaming numbers.
Calvin Harris returns to the festival scene this year at Creamfields, so maybe we’ll see more headlining performances from him in 2020 and beyond if he feels compelled to retake his top spot.
Overall, the minimum required to be eligible for the list this year was $37.5 million, “up 7% from a year ago, as the world’s 100 highest-paid superstars clocked $6.3 billion in pretax earnings over the past 12 months,” as Forbes explains.
