Seven people were injured and four hospitalized when a man drove a stolen “side-by-side ATV” into the crowd at Curiosity Music Festival in British Columbia last weekend.
According to the festival, on-site medical staff was treating a man in his 20s when he proceeded to assault the staff and hijacked their vehicle. He took off at a high speed, drove straight through the crowd and injured attendees in the process, before he eventually crashed into the stage.
Thankfully, none of the injuries were said to be life-threatening and all are expected to make a full recovery.
According to Curiosity, “The perpetrator faces numerous charges including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and more to be determined as the investigation continues.”
Alcohol and/or substance abuse were believed to have been a factor.
Counseling was offered to those involved in this unpredictable and isolated event, which undoubtedly proved to be traumatic for the victims. In addition, Curiosity thanked security and medical staff for their “fast” and “appropriate” actions.
The incident is described in detail on Curiosity Music Festival’s official Facebook page, as well as a personal account from one of the victims. See below.
