Game Of Thrones Quietly Removes The Coffee Cup From This Past Weekend’s Episode

This past Sunday, Season 8 Episode 4 of the hit TV series Game Of Thrones, “The Last of the Starks,” aired on HBO. Fans are still saying what they will about the show’s writing and plot at this point heading into the series finale, but others were more focused on something else: that coffee cup.

While some pushed conspiracy theories that the cup was some sort of guerrilla marketing, Bernie Caulfield, an executive producer on the show, confirms the offending cup was just a simple mistake.  “We’re sorry!” Caulfield said in an interview with WNYC radio.

Now, presumably sometime overnight, HBO has seemingly digitally removed the cup from its scene. Fans watching on streaming services like HBO GO will no longer see the cup — obviously, if you recorded the original airing, you will still be able to find it.

Season 8 Episode 5 of Game Of Thrones airs this coming Sunday, May 12.
