We have LUZCID in the spotlight this week, and he recently released a superb EP for Wakaan titled Prophecy. With his unique sounds turning heads all the time, 2019 is set to be a strong year for the producer and DJ. Have a read below to hear more from the man himself.
Thanks for joining us, LUZCID! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your artist journey so far?
Hi! I have been producing nearly 10 years now. I started in college after attending shows first in 2009. I instantly fell in love with the bass music world and wanted to be a part of it. I enjoy music that tells a story, a balance between beauty and fury.
Where do you take inspiration from when making music?
I love epic stories of any kind, great movies or video games. The music really sets the mood of a situation and has become so ingrained with our emotions. I love trying to discover new ways to evoke emotion with sound.
Have you always been interested in doing this as a career? What are some of your earliest musical memories?
Growing up I never would have thought in a million years I would be in the entertainment industry, especially as a musician. I had pretty bad anxiety growing up so the prospect of standing on stage in front of people was not appealing. One of my earliest memories is going with my parents to a YES concert and smelling marijuana for the first time.
Which tunes from 2019 are you digging?
2019 is trending to be a heavy dubstep year, musically for me. I am currently on the Rott N Roll tour with Zomboy, Space Laces and Badklaat and they are all heavy-hitting geniuses. Their influence is definitely rubbing off on me. I really like Space Laces – ‘Phone Tap,’ Dubloadz x SUAHN – ‘I am the Light’ and everything Effin touches.
Sick work on the ‘Prophecy’ EP, really enjoying it. How long did it take to make from start to finish?
Thanks! Honestly I have no clue. Some of the songs have 70+ versions and went through like 10 different drops over the course of about 16 months. As I played the songs out over time and my style changed I changed the songs as well. That is kind of how I work. I constantly change my songs till I’m forced to release music, haha.
What is its story? Do you have any favorites from the set?
I kinda explained that in the question above. Honestly I really like all of these songs. I think my favorite song is always going to be my newest one just cause I get tired of the old ones – I have played them 1,000,000 times. In this case, my newest song on the EP is ‘Soundblaster.’
What do you have next on the horizon? Where can we catch you playing in the near future?
I’m already working on a ton of new music for the rest of this year. I have a special collaboration coming with a good friend, I will also be hitting some festivals this summer and then doing some dates in the Fall – including the first annual WAKAAN Festival- it’s shaping up to be a big year!
