New York Nightclub Output Closing Its Doors

Following rumors at the beginning of this week, New York nightclub Output has officially revealed that it will be permanently closing as of January 1, 2019. The closure comes as a shock to many as events were listed as ongoing for next year.

Though, as Output describes in their statement this morning, the writing has been on the wall “for some time.” It lists “rapidly shifting social trends, unfavorable market conditions and weakening financial outlooks” among the reasons for the closure, as well as “multiple existential challenges.”

Output opened its doors in 2013 with a mission to bring house and techno to New York City with no fuss. The club was famous for its no phone-photography aesthetic and realistic underground vibes. With its closure, underground genres will likely have a harder time finding appropriate venues to play in the city.

Compounded with the closure of Webster Hall in 2017, New York City’s venue options continue to dwindle.
