Electric Forest just dropped their full lineup for 2019, just days after announcing that the festival was moving back to one weekend next year. Headliners are made bold and noticeable right at the very top: Odesza, Kygo, Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, and String Cheese Incident. However, it’s the undercard that has us scratching our heads.
In the second group, we have a lot of return performers and fan favorites like 12th Planet, Black Tiger Sex Machine, The Floozies, STS9, Claude VonStroke, and Gramatik.
But moving onto the third group, we begin to see a lot more… interesting names pop up. There are some recognizable names in the group: Fury + MC Dino, Dr. Fresch, The Knocks, Ookay (Live), Riot Ten, Thriftworks, and the like. And then you have another group of names: 
- Dragondeer
- Dixon’s Violin
- Horseshoes & Hand Grenades
- Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
- Horse Meat Disco
Now, rather than some people who’d comment “Who” on a Facebook post and move along, I actually took the time to look these artists up on Spotify. Some are actually decently big, like Pigeons Playing Ping Pong; others are significantly smaller, like Dragondeer. None of them are what you’d consider typically “EDM.”
Then again, this is Electric Forest we’re talking about, so a certain level of wookness is expected in the lineup.
Another factor to consider is that perhaps I’ve gotten a bit spoiled by two weekends of Forest, and this lineup is considerably smaller than what’s been shared the past two years. With an objectively smaller array of artists to put on the lineup, it’s only logical that there would be less opportunity to create a lineup that would appeal to all fans.
However, apart from a couple handfuls of standouts and the regular returning names, the lineup this year is rather disappointing. Worth shelling out $200 for a cardboard box tent? I don’t think so.

Im not sure what kind of drugs you are doing but this is hands down by far one of the greatest festival line ups ive ever seen in my life….
Y’all are nuts, so you mean there are a few more jam band type artists? Do you not even listen to but the top 20 artists of only edm genres? There is a lot of gold in that third tier, Jansen, Wooli, Chee, and Ivy Lab to name a couple. This is a disparaging opinion piece. So what you’re mad about ardboard tents? One weekend? I mean your voicing concern about the amount of jam bands in a festival founded by a jam band. The beauty of forest has always been to get lost in paradise and find some music you’ve never heard alongside music you love, this line up speaks volumes to that in mind.
I’ve been watching The electric Forest lineup for the last 3 years. This is probably the most diverse and eclectic lineup I’ve ever seen maybe minus when they use to throw them a long time ago with Dave Matthews and 311 at cetera. There will be a lot to see and do a lot of different kinds of music some styles and the vibe in my opinion out of all the festivals I’ve ever been surpasses any festival or any music concert that I’ve ever been to.
Jokes on you for being a lame and comparing this to a typical lineup. Insomniac is only coproducer. Madison House is SCI’s production company so of course its gonna have jam bands!
this is String Cheese Incident’s music festival, its not supposed to be “just EDM”. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong isn’t “actually pretty decent”, they rock a live show much better than 95% of the DJs on this lineup and are an awesome live show. try the funk homie. it will change yo life.
Who’s missing for you EXCISION? EF is not a BASS festival. You said nothing about bass but your profile clearly states you are a lover of all BASS and that’s what you only really understand. Trek yourself back to Lost Lands BRAH.
