Up until now, London-based DnB maverick Kusp has used his Detail imprint less as a label and more as an arm of his own personal brand. He self-released on the imprint at will while still releasing on other labels and not really showing much interest in adding new artists and developing a roster. Or so we thought. Enter Arashi, a huge LP from up-and-comer Kusp.
With a few hip hop-tinged single releases on other labels like Context Audio and Authentic music, one might wonder why Lynx picked Kusp to be the first new artist on Detail. Upon listening to the album, however, that confusion will easily dissipate as the completely infectious groove takes over. With lots of hip hop influence and cameos from Lynx himself, Kemo and Newsome just to name a few, it’s clear both Kusp and Lynx are sending a message with this one: the funk is not gone from drum and bass.
To highlight some of his favorite tracks from Arashi as well as to do something fun and different, Lynx has put together a huge exclusive guest mix for Your EDM listeners only. Opening with the hip hop styled halftime banger of title track, this mix is vibes all the way through. Through Lynx’s mixing expertise, he really showcases Kusp’s diverse, emotive and incredibly different style, but how sounds like his can easily be worked into a stunning set.
Although nothing has been confirmed yet about whether Lynx will be releasing more from other artists on Detail, it would certainly appear that he wants to build a platform going forward for new artists and sounds that will push the genre forward and keep the groove and funk in DnB
