SoundCloud has long been one of the most trafficked streaming sites in the world, even as Spotify and Apple Music continue to improve their platforms by leaps and bounds. However, one of the most glaring drawbacks to SoundCloud has been the lack of widespread monetization opportunities.
Today, SoundCloud has announced that it has expanded its monetization availability to independent creators. The monetization platform, SoundCloud Premier, is now open to all eligible Pro subscribers at no additional cost. Eligible subscribers right now means creators with 5,000 plays in the past month (from SoundCloud monetized countries: US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand), then scaling over time to as many creators as possible. For now, only original content is eligible.
“SoundCloud is the world’s largest open audio platform, with content from more than 20 million creators,” said Kerry Trainor, current CEO of SoundCloud. “Expanding SoundCloud Premier’s direct monetization offering from thousands, to hundreds of thousands of eligible creators is an exciting step in our commitment to empowering as many creators as possible to grow their careers first on SoundCloud.”
