This summer, a Das Energi attendee died after falling off a highway nearby the festival grounds. Now, people are petitioning to put up a fence on the stretch of highway in Magna, Utah — at the same spot where tragedy struck.
The change.org petition backed by UDOT is forward and to the point about why it’s necessary to have fencing installed on this stretch of highway:
The purpose of this letter is to request that protective fencing be installed on the UT-202 overpass bridging I-80 in Magna, Utah. Approximately 200 feet on the west side and east side of this stretch of road should be fenced.
This past August, a man died after falling from the UT-202 overpass and being struck by multiple vehicles on I-80. This tragedy would have been avoided if there had been a fence in place. We can and should prevent other, similar tragedies in the future.
So far, the petition has garnered 1,806 signatures of its 2,500 goal. All it needs is a little push to help ensure this doesn’t happen again.
