Despite our progress in society, women still have it rough. It’s disappointing to hear women at top companies still face discrimination, especially at a company like Spotify. That’s right; an employee has sued Spotify for discrimination against female employees and defamation.

Hong Perez has sued Spotify in the New York Supreme Court, making a number of huge claims:

  • Her boss only chose men to go on trips to the Sundance Film Festival in 2016 and 2017, trips that included drug use and fights.
  • A Spotify executive received a promotion even after being accused of sexual harassment and taking male employees to strip clubs in Atlantic City in New Jersey.
  • Spotify CFO Barry McCarthy allegedly said “he does not care about diversity at the company” during a town hall.
  • An HR executive said his favorite curse word was “c***.”
  • The global head of sales paid men more than women.
  • An HR executive didn’t punish a male executive accused of sexual harassment.

Wow, that’s a lot to take in. Variety asked Spotify for comment, receiving the following quote:

“At Spotify, we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind at any level. While we cannot comment on the specific details of a pending litigation, these claims are without merit.”

We’re very curious to see how this court case shakes out.
