Fans are remembering Mac Miller at Blue Slide Park in Pittsburgh, the very place the hip hop icon named his debut album after.
Last night, a public vigil organized by Nightfall Records went down in the playground area of Frick Park. It’s the spot that Miller’s beloved album Blue Slide Park was based on.
“We would like to bring the city together in full force for this legendary icon,” the label shared on social media. “Mac deserves to be sent off with an evening of celebrating his life, discussing his struggles, and remembering his stories; most importantly for his iconic work that brought joy into the lives of everybody who listened.”
That’s exactly what happened. The slide rocked a fresh coat of blue paint for the occasion. DJs jumped on the decks to spin Mac’s music. This was a true celebration.
Over 1,000 fans came through the memorial, some leaving flowers, notes, and other items behind. They lit candles together, laugh, cried, and remembered Mac Miller in the wake of his heartbreaking death.
Miller’s grandmother was also in attendance. She took time to get on the mic, thank his adoring fans, and give out plenty of hugs.
The rapper was found dead in his Los Angeles home last Friday. He was 26.
