Arrests At This Year’s Burning Man “On Par” With Previous Years, Says Sheriff

Burning Man Burning Man

Today is the last official day of Burning Man, even though thousands still linger on the playa. Over the past 10 days, tens of thousands of people swarmed to Black Rock City to create a temporary cityscape and escape from the real cities.

Police and federal officials were also present at the event throughout its duration, leading to the arrest of 43 individuals this year. Compared to last year’s 58, this year showed an improvement. The reasons for most of the arrests remain to be drug possession and trafficking of drugs.

“People are still leaving the playa and recovering from a week of partying,” Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen said about the likelihood of more arrests into the coming week. “They are trying to orient themselves and coming to terms with reality.”
