Protohype’s Snapchat & SoundCloud Hacked

There’s been a lot of hacking going on lately in the music world this year, most recently Megalodon and Subtronics, but also ticket vendors like Ticketfly and Ticketmaster UK. Now, we’ve learned that bass producer Protohype had his Snapchat hacked, and whoever the perpetrator was began scamming his followers for cash.

“@Protohype stole money from my friends today over Snapchat,” tweeted @TonyLastro. “Something about a deal on his premium Spotify. Made them pay pal him 5$ fucking scumbag.”

This tweet and, we assume, many other messages and notifications alerted Protohype to the hack and he sent out a message to his own followers asking them to report it.

The deal offered from the hacked account is also strange. Though we don’t know the precise details, any $5 deal for “premium Spotify” from an artist’s account on Snapchat sent out to random users without any mention of the promotion on other social platforms should raise red flags.

Anyone who’s recently received a message from Protohype on Snapchat regarding a “premium Spotify” should be wary and just ignore the message.

A day after his Snapchat was hacked, so too was his Soundcloud. Whoever broke into his account erased all data, including followers, tracks, and stats; though it was later recovered, Protohype remains locked out of his account for the time being.

Listen to Protohype’s newest track “Fiyah” here and support him that way.
