On an average day, you wouldn’t catch me listening to ASAP Rocky. But, you might definitely find me listening to Skepta. Because of that, I’m familiar with the two’s collaboration “Praise The Lord,” and have had the pleasure of finding this new remix courtesy of CRVE U and SKUM.
The two smartly keep in the iconic flutes from the original, but vary up the production from what was once a very, very simple loop into a more progressive trap tune. Of course, this has a lot to do with the build/drop structure of dance music versus the emphasis on bars and verses in hip hop, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable.
The drop manages to put a bit of an Eastern spin on the mix, which you wouldn’t really see coming having listened to just the original. It’s calm and serene as well as energetic and boisterous. All in all, it’s a wonderfully executed remix – it will be most interesting to see how it fits into live sets.
