This week we have sergioisdead speaking to us, an artist who crafts an intricate electronic sound with strong melodic focus. His recent single ‘All Of The Things’ is out now, and you can check out the stream below.
Hey, thanks for joining us! Can you tell us a bit about your sound – what originally inspired it and how you want your music to make people feel?
The sound is based on the vocalist: I want to make them either really comfortable or really uncomfortable. I hope that a listener loves or hates it, but isn’t indifferent.
What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned since you started making music? What have been some of the challenges along the way?
Everything takes a little sweat but if you’re really doing what’s natural and don’t have any intentions, the universe will take care of you. Just be aware that the success you find might not look like the success you imagined.
If you’re not producing, what do you listen to? Any surprising genres or artists that you love?
I go in phases but I don’t think my listening would surprise anyone. Right now: a ton of 90’s skate punk from when I was a kid. Last week: Kraftwerk, Led Zeppelin, and gothy stuff (The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Joy Division).
Your new track ‘All Of The Things’ is making waves right now. How long did it take you to put together?
A few hours.
What’s the story behind it?
Hyara (she sung on it) had a vocal idea and said “make it sound luminous,” so I tried my best (or worst?)
Did you enjoy working with Hyara? What does she bring to the track in your opinion?
We’ve never met or had any kind of contact. We don’t even follow each other on Instagram or anything (she doesn’t have one). Would love to do more with her and perhaps never speak? That’d be cool.
The summer is upon us. How are you spending the next few months?
Working on music that sounds nothing like ‘All Of The Things.’
Where would you most like to play in the world?
Peru, but only as the bassist for Lagwagon.
