VICEROY Explores The Different In “Caught Me A Rhythm” Feat. Marc E. Bassy

“Do something different.”

It’s a directive so painfully important to an artist’s growth, yet it’s easier said than done. It’s like telling a baseball hall of famer to throw a perfect Hail Mary – it uses the same muscles, and it’s definitely in their level of ability, but it’s something they’re not used to.

I speak about “different” because it’s the first thing that came to mind when I heard VICEROY’s “Caught Me A Rhythm.” It started with that very first drum loop – I’ve never heard anything like it. It’s shallow and delicate, and rhythmic in an almost hypnotic way.

Marc E. Bassy comes in on the vocals with purpose, blending perfectly with the jazzy piano and beats. VICEROY says he took the last year off to “figure out where I wanted to take the Viceroy project sonically and brand wise.” If this is where he ended up, I’m damn happy about it.
