The Grammy Awards will open up its nominee pool in a major way for the next ceremony!
The Recording Academy just announced this exciting plan, which will allow even more amazing artists to shine during the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. The four top categories — Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist — will recognize eight total nominees in each instead of just five.
This means even more amazing talent will have the chance to take home some of the most sought after awards in music, as The Academy strives to represent the industry fairly and accurately. 
“Because the Grammy Awards reflect what’s happening in the ever-changing landscape of music, the Recording Academy works diligently to make sure our awards process continually evolves to meet the needs of the music community,”
Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow is expected to step down after the 2019 ceremony. However, he isn’t going out without backing these larger top categories.
“This creates more opportunities for a wider-range of recognition in these important categories and gives more flexibility to our voters when having to make the often challenging decisions about representing excellence and the best in music for the year.”
