Dance music and rock collaborations, as rare as they’ve been in years past, have suddenly grown much more common these past twelve months. Alesso and Florida Georgia Line, The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, Kygo and Imagine Dragons… and ZHU and Tame Impala.
The Zhu and Tame Impala collaboration, “My Life,” in particular was production gold, as both artists are well known for their attention to details and synth-driven, dreamy soundscapes. If the song was to be remixed, it would have to be by an artist with just as much attention to detail and creativity as the original artists. Enter AWAY.
Already known for his original tracks like “Sleepwalker” and his remix of Crywolf’s “Quantum Immortality,” AWAY has established himself as a talented producer with a sound all his own. His “My Life” remix is no different, putting a unique spin on the already-unique track. Many of the more dream-like elements are kept intact, while the drop is made more bombastic and textured, utilizing more midtempo bass rhythms akin to Rezz or 1788-L.
The end result is a dark, maniacal atmosphere that simultaneously terrifies and excites. Listen to it below.
