Holy crap, time flies, especially when it comes to EDM. Four years ago today, Skrillex played the second of two iconic sets at Red Rocks.
Skrillex was one of the first EDM acts to ever play a double bill at the legendary Colorado venue. Back when EDM was still blowing up in America, Skrillex stood as one of the few widely recognizable names. So, his Red Rocks show foreshadowed much of EDM’s future success.
The shows took place during the 2014 edition of his Mothership Tour, which included insane production and set design. The tour marked the second iteration of the Mothership Tour following the first in 2012. He hasn’t yet embarked on a third Mothership tour, but we eagerly anticipate a day when it might come to fruition.
The second Mothership Tour followed his debut album Recess, released earlier that year. In 2014, Skrillex also played Coachella, Bonnaroo (both his usual set, his star-studded Superjam and a surprise, sunrise set with Mija), Governor’s Ball, Lollapalooza and more. The openers for these shows? Dillon Francis, DJ Snake (seriously), What So Not and Milo & Otis.
Luckily for people who missed out on the Red Rocks shows, a video of one of the sets is on YouTube. Travel back to 2014 and watch Skrillex’s Red Rocks set below:
