The death, or, more realistically, murder, of XXXTentacion on Monday sent shock waves through the music industry and his fans. People were embattled on social media over whether to mourn his death or celebrate it, and then there were those in between who didn’t like him but also wondered why anyone would celebrate a 20-year-old’s life being cut short.
However, no matter what these people engaged in on social media, the fact of the matter is that XXX’s music skyrocketed in streaming, and digital and physical sales. It’s even breaking records.
The most staggering figure by far is that the vinyl release of his album ? jumped a whopping 542,566% on Amazon’s Movers and Shakers list. The CD experienced a 54,057% spike in sales. It also saw a 41,306% spike on the Digital Music list, and his album 17 is up nearly 9,000%.
XXXTentacion is not only spiking on Amazon, but iTunes and Spotify, as well. His songs “SAD!” and “changes” from his latest album jumped to No. 1 and No. 5 respectively on iTunes. The album itself is also returned to peak at No. 3 yesterday, according to TMZ.
As for Spotify, XXXTentacion is absolutely dominating the Global Top 50 with songs in the top 7 spots. “SAD!” alone was streamed over 10 million times in the past 24 hours, which has broken the record for most streams in a day on the platform. The previous record was held by Taylor Swift for her song “Look What You Made Me Do,” which racked up 10.1 million on release day. (There are also around 15 million new paying subscribers on the platform than when Swift’s song came out.)

When this week’s Billboard charts come out, XXX’s spike on these other services will likely be similarly reflected.
