Talk about a short exclusive album. Beyoncé and Jay-Z dropped a surprise album this past Saturday as The Carters. Jay-Z’s streaming service TIDAL had exclusivity over the Everything Is Love album, but no more. The album is now on Spotify and Apple Music.
The new album released on Apple Music and Spotify Premium today. In two weeks, it will release on Spotify’s free tier as well. The news is a bit shocking; Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Jay-Z’s 4:44 albums are still TIDAL exclusives. Since both Jay-Z and Beyoncé are heavily involved in TIDAL, we expected Everything Is Love to remain an exclusive.
The move is even more surprising given Beyoncé’s slight diss of Spotify in the album track “NICE”:
“If I gave two fucks – two fucks about streaming numbers
Would have put Lemonade up on Spotify
Fuck you, fuck you, you’re cool, fuck you, I’m out (Ah!)”
Those lyrics may address Lemonade, but we’re perplexed that the new album popped up on TIDAL competitors. For all the Bey and Jay fans clamoring for the new album: enjoy.
