Canada makes history today as the only country in the G7 to have fully legalized weed. The Canada Senate today passed the legal weed bill that will make cannabis recreationally available to all of Canada’s provinces. The bill still requires “Royal Assent,” Canada’s version of America’s president signing a bill into law, but PM Justin Trudeau has long been an outspoken proponent of legalizing cannabis, so no complications are expected.
With 13 provinces that will be required to get systems in order to accommodate the new cash crop, a grace period will be provided. That means it will still be another couple months before consumers can freely purchase cannabis across the country.
Edibles, however, for whatever reason, won’t be legalized until after 2019.
