In the wake of so many deaths resulting from issues in mental health, understanding these issues and working towards a solution is of paramount importance. While the deaths of musicians like Avicii and Lil Peep hang loosely in the public consciousness, more recent suicides from fashion and food icons Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, respectively, have catalyzed many.
As one of the industries with the highest incidence of depression and mental illness, music should also be one of the champions for wellness. Ben Verse, former member of Pendulum, has taken it upon himself to spearhead an effort to bring artists together to give back to charities. He’s brought together the likes of The Prodigy, D Bridge & Skeptical, Chase & Status, Sub Focus and Artificial Intelligence, many of whom contributed exclusive tracks, for Mind State Vol. 1.
Verse explains the aim of the album as the following: “To fuse the legends with the new school and create a unique compilation of upfront drum & bass tracks, whilst shining a light and making a statement in the fight against mental illness.”
All earnings of the unique compilation album will go to charities linked to the Getahead Festival, which will take place in Omeara London on the 13th of June, the very first ever 24-hour festival of Mental Health, Wellbeing & Music. From all profits, 50% of the album proceeds will go to Getahead Festival partner Help Musicians UK (HMUK) and its Music Minds Matter mental health service and support line for the music community.
