Rob Swire, as a producer and person, is enigmatic, to say the least. With a near genius ability in production and a constant desire to keep working, even to the point of throwing out a project if it’s not absolutely perfect, Swire is a producer that many aspire to be more like.
As frontman for both Pendulum and Knife Party, Swire has seen success in two very different realms of dance music; the highly-devoted and sometimes overly-critical sect of drum & bass fans had their fill of Pendulum for a good 5-6 years, and Knife Party fans have had to deal with a wide selection of incredible electro house numbers paired with what were basically troll tracks.
Still, the Pendulum remix album The Reworks is set for release at the end of this month, featuring remixes from Skrillex, Knife Party, Moby, Noisia, and more. In anticipation of its release, Music Feeds caught up with Swire and talked to him about all of his current projects.
When asked about the possibility of a fourth Pendulum album, which has gone through various stages of rumors for years, Swire said, “We’re working on some bits in the studio at the minute and, with any luck, we’ll have something out this year. No promises, though.”
Swire also says he’s still touring and working on new Knife Party material with co-producer Gareth McGrillen, including the remix of “Blood Sugar” which appears on The Reworks.
In the end, we’re still left with more questions than answers. But at the very least, we know that new Pendulum material is being recorded; though, in what capacity, remains to be seen. With any luck, as Swire puts it, we’ll see a new album from the group yet.
