Chill EDM and house has exploded in the past couple years, and RÜFÜS DU SOL could be considered one of the pioneers. The band’s 2016 album Bloom made a huge impact, but now it’s time for new music.
RÜFÜS dropped their first single in two years today, and it’s pretty good. Titled “No Place,” the single explores new sounds while reminding us why the band is so beloved. The hallmark RÜFÜS sounds are here: a chill beat, Tyrone Lindqvist‘s sultry vocals and atmospheric production. But, “No Place” adds in a few, new elements that make it an extension of what we heard on Bloom.
For starters, the single has horns similar to a trap or ODESZA track. The horns may seem out of place at first, but they fit in well here. Lindqvist’s lyrics are pretty familiar, but he sings in a few different registers here to make things fresh. The single marks a preview of what’s to come from their third album, which is slated to release later this year.
