It wasn’t too long ago that Rick and Morty show runner Dan Harmon revealed that Adult Swim, the network behind the hit series, hadn’t yet ordered any additional episodes. Fans were wondering what was taking so long to see any test footage of Season 4, and Harmon’s answer nipped all rumors right in the bud: there just hadn’t been any demand for it yet. The season 3 finale alone scored the highest ratings ever for Adult Swim, so it was all the more curious why not.
Thankfully, we got some good news today as Justin Roiland, voice of both Morty and Rick and co-creator of the show, revealed via the program’s social media that Adult Swim had ordered a staggering 70 additional episodes of the series! For reference, the show has only aired a grand total of 31 episodes so far over 3 seasons.
What this means is that we’ll either be getting longer seasons with more drawn out story lines (something with which Harmon and Roiland would have to test the waters) or we’ll be getting seven new seasons. We’re fine either way.
