Yodel Boy Mason Ramsey Releases His Debut Single, “Famous”

Yeah, we know this isn’t EDM, but Mason Ramsey has become a cultural phenomenon and we’d be remiss if we didn’t cover his debut single, “Famous.” And along with his first single comes the news that the 11-year-old has officially signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and Big Loud. Chew on that.

The song is your typical, twangy country song. Right off the bat, we feel like we’re getting a fresh perspective from a young boy who’s been thrust into fame.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty cool to be on T.V
So all the folks back home can see me
And then I’m livin’ it out
All the things I used to dream about
Yeah, it’s pretty great, the playin’ on a stage
Proud ’cause there ain’t an empty seat in the place”

Cool, man. Rock on.

And then…

“But, girl, ever since I met you
I got a whole new perspective”

Ah, there’s the country we know and love.

We can’t honestly believe that an 11-year-old has had enough romantic experience to write this song truly from his heart, and he didn’t. According to Spotify’s credits, Ramsey’s name is entirely absent from both the writing and production on the track.

Aside from the lyrics, the song itself is actually extremely well-produced and written, and Ramsey’s voice sounds innocent and clean. This is sure to be a guilty pleasure for many, along the lines of Rebecca Black’s “Friday” (albeit with much better writing).
