If there’s anyone who knows how to make the perfect EDM-pop crossover track it’s Zedd. And for his latest top 40 hit, he enlisted in an entire team of songwriters and producers to bring “The Middle” to life. Or should we say, they enlisted in him.
The Monsters and The Strangerz came up with a demo before it ever hit the ears of the superstar producer. Next, it was passed along to electronic duo Grey. What they heard was the early makings of a smash hit, so they put their own spin on it and handed it over to none other than Zedd.
Everyone involved knew “The Middle” could be big –like really big. But they needed a vocalist to carry the track with the original intent. Fourteen vocalists later and they finally landed on Maren Morris. She sounded most like Sarah, the songwriter behind the demo. With the vocals in place, all that was left to do was the mix down.
A reporter for The New York Times was able to pick the brains of the masterminds involved with the success of “The Middle.” What started as just a single sound morphed into a rough demo, and then into one of the most memorable tracks of 2018.
Watch and be amazed with the process!
