Subtact is no stranger to Monstercat, having released on the label many times since his debut with them in 2015. Over the years, Subtact has grown to become a Denver, Colorado favorite, and his production ability has grown along with his performance ability, resulting in “Friends” with Bri Tolani, out today on Monstercat. This is his first release on Monstercat in nearly a year.
At only 20 years old, Subtact still manages to produce with the emotional maturity of someone seemingly much older (and more weathered). “Friends” is brilliantly melodic and rhythmic, eliciting that effortless body sway / eyes closed / feeling the music aesthetic that’s so important.
For her own part, Bri Tolani crushes her vocal performance, providing that almost girl-next-door vibe, which is wholly appropriate given the nature of the song’s lyrics.
