In wake of the tragedy that happened last fall in Las Vegas, Miami Police have doubled-down on security for Ultra Music Festival 2018. Specifically, they’re focusing on the outdoors and above the festival grounds which include the concert venue’s neighboring block of Biscayne Boulevard buildings and adjacent high-rises.
Police snipers will take up positions within the buildings with armored rescue vehicles also set to be involved. The marine patrol will guard Biscayne Bay, which serves as the park’s eastern edge, as well. In addition, plainclothes officers will check on the buildings surrounding the boulevard while more than 300 officers will patrol the event grounds. The city is also making use of hundreds of cameras throughout downtown Miami which can help law enforcement quickly identify anybody, or anything, they deem suspicious at any time.
The festival which kicks off today is expected to draw around 50,000 fans a day.
