Instagram Freshens Its Feed By Organizing Posts In A Brand New Way

Instagram isn’t bringing back its much-loved chronological feed completely, but users will be happy to know the popular social media app does promise a new way of sharing more recent posts toward the top.

In June 2016, Instagram abruptly switched from a reverse chronological feed to a new method that favors the most popular posts and posts from your close friends above all else.

“With these changes, your feed will feel more fresh, and you won’t miss the moments you care about,” Instagram shares in a statement. “Based on your feedback, we’re also making changes to ensure that newer posts are more likely to appear first in feed.”

Now, Instagram vows it won’t bump you when the feed randomly refreshes. Instead, users will be treated to the luxury of a “New Posts” button to refresh at their leisure. Not only will this ensure refreshes when you want them, but it will promote newer posts toward the top of the Instagram feed.

There’s no right or wrong algorithm, but in a world full of chaos it’s definitely nice to have some order. Thanks for listening, Instagram!
