Slander returns to Monstercat once again with a new anthemic and emotionally-charged single, “Happy Now.”
The song follows the familiar trope of a love once had and lost, though the feelings shown in this song represent a degree of emotional maturity that a lot of people aren’t able to muster. The vocals wish the old lover a happy life, “Well, I hope you’re happy now,” and it sure seems sincere enough.
As for the production, it lands on the softer side for Slander tracks, and that probably has something to do with the fact that once upon a time this was a collaboration with San Holo. Slander writes in the description, “This song started off as a collab between us and San Holo over 2 years ago! Since then, San’s musical direction has changed so we decided to find an amazing vocal for the song and complete the track ourselves.
San Holo says of the track, “I really enjoyed starting this song with the guys but as the idea evolved it began to sound more like a Slander record than a San Holo record to me, so I am excited to see the guys finally put this out with Monstercat!”
