Costa Rica’s Envision Festival went down this past weekend nearly without incident; unfortunately, on the final day, one death from the festival was reported.
According to local news sources, the deceased was identified as 32-year-old Wesner Chavarría Camareno, who was apparently a volunteer at the festival. His body was found in the water just outside the festival grounds, at Uvita Beach in Puntarenas. By the time he was found, he had already passed away.
Sources close to the matter told Dancing Astronaut that witnesses spotted Camareno in the water “up to his knees” before vanishing beneath the waves. Envision also told DA that this is the first death at the festival since it began in 2011.
Further details on Camareno’s death, including an official COD, are sure to follow soon.

The most important question everyone should be asking is: where where the lifegaurds? Why do they close the gates to the beach at night ‘for our safety’, with lifegaurds staying till sunset but when they re-open them at 6am there are no lifeguards present – at this time people would have probably been up all night and in most need of lifegaurds? I know each person are responsible for their own actions, but I truly believe that if there were lifegaurds on duty that morning, this Costarican man would still be alive today.
There were lifeguards there actually performing CPR. It happened around 7AM. He appeared to be a local man and it was rumored he was wearing a purple volunteer bracelet from years before. This years bracelets were green! He was on also noted to be under the influence drugs and it was an unfortunate incident. Please be careful at these festivals and drink plenty of water. Abstain from drugs and swimming!! Enjoy the music and culture and be safe people!!
