I truly have a soft spot for melodic dance music – and that isn’t to say that most dance music isn’t melodic. However, there’s a specific portion of the genre that puts infinitely more emphasis on melody and such than others. One track that exemplifies that emphasis is the new song “Float,” by Syence x Paperwings, featuring Wynter.
The track almost comes across too softly, never really presenting any rough edges to listeners. With a sort of Purity Ring or Sylvan Esso innocence, vocals from Wynter float daintily above the delicate synths and percussion until reaching a peak emotion and letting the drop come through with natural force.
“Float” almost aims to be a cross between pop and melodic EDM, riding the line closely, but never forgetting its roots. With a solid remix, “Float” could potentially be a true dancefloor contender, but right now, we’re content putting this on in our bedroom and allowing ourselves to… float away…
Lyrics:
I need more sleep
Coffee, morphine
Reckless with my health
Just like everybody else
I get too stressed
Vodka, romance
Reckless with myself
Just like everybody else
I get so used to cloudy days
I try to justify the rain
I hold too tightly to the pain
My expectations start to change
I wanna wake up weightless
I want the sun on my face
Let the skies just open up
Let it all float away
I won’t worry
I am worthy
Too hard on myself
Just like everybody else
I wanna wake up weightless
I want the sun on my face
Let the skies just open up
Let it all float away
