It’s no secret that alcohol leads to lowered inhibitions and actions you might not otherwise take – in fact, it’s pretty much one of the first things you learn on a night out. Still, researchers at the NYU Meyers College of Nursing in New York have concluded a study that confirms alcohol is the drug most likely to lead to you having sex and regretting it.
Alcohol can result in increased feelings of attraction, both self-confidence and with “beer goggles,” and also leads to increased risk taking and lower social anxiety.
According to the findings published in the journal Psychology and Sexuality, post-sex regret after alcohol was experienced by 31% of the 679 18-25 year old participants in the study; that compares to 13% for ecstasy, and 7% for marijuana.
So next time you’re nursing a break up, maybe hold off on the alcohol – you might do something you end up regretting in the morning.
