In an ‘east meets west’ situation like no other, Sony Music Entertainment has teamed up with Chinese tech conglomerate giant Tencent’s music department Tencent Music Entertainment Group to launch a joint electronic dance label Liquid State.
Liquid State will feature electronic and EDM artists both within Asia and abroad, with EDM superstar Alan Walker, known for his massive Asian fanbase, the first international signing. Walker is currently signed to Sony imprints as well at SME Sweden. Former Columbia Records signing ZHU has also signed onto the initiative.
In addition, the label will be discovering, showcasing and developing the existing local talent to help harness EDM’s massive growth within the region. At the moment, Asia is one of the fastest growing EDM markets and Liquid State looks to take advantage of that, cultivating a label that speaks both to international artists with Asian ties, but also to home-grown acts.
Tencent Music Entertainment Group also runs three of China’s biggest streaming services in QQ Music, Kuwo Music, and Kugou Music.
