Calvin Harris is set to release his new single “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” with Partynextdoor today. After announcing that Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1 was going to be the sole volume of funk wav bounces, he stated that he was working on something new. And in a tweet the day before release, he stated that his new music would be a “whole new experience.”
“Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” has just hit the airwaves, after a premiere on Beats 1 with Zane Lowe, and it’s got a clear dancehall vibe, but far more minimal. There are few elements in the track aside from a minimal percussive loop and lead synth, and PND’s vocals. It’s stripped down so far that it’s hardly a pop track, nor is it really dance music.
It’s impossible to tell if the rest of Calvin’s productions in 2018 will follow this pattern, or if they’ll be more embellished, but we’re certainly seeing a side of him that we haven’t before… and we’ve seen many, many sides of his production already.
