Calvin Harris: “I’m just gonna do whatever I want”

Calvin Harris just put out a minimal dancehall record this morning, called “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” with Partynextdoor, and we’re left wondering: is there any style that Harris won’t tackle? The short answer? No.

Speaking with Annie Mac at BBC Radio 1, he say when he put out “My Way” at the end of 2016, he wasn’t excited about the release at all. So to fall back in love with the music he’d been creating for over a decade, he threw caution to the wind and did the unthinkable… he put out Funk Wav Bounces.

“I’m just gonna do whatever I want,” Harris told Mac. “I’m gonna spend all the money I’m making in Vegas on features. I’m gonna get everyone to help out. I’m gonna put Young Thug on a motown funk tune, because no one else will. It’s a waste of money.”

Mac tries to get Harris to reveal who was the most expensive, but he didn’t budge. However, he did say that Nicki and Katy weren’t the most expensive, but one artist’s management demanded to match the highest feature’s fee.

“It sounds basic, but it gets very convoluted with so many people’s opinions, you start losing track of why you got into it in the first place.”
