Grammy-Nominated Duo SMLE Returns to Monstercat with “2 Me”

SMLE has had no problem keeping busy since their Monstercat debut in 2016.

Within the last year and a half, the rising duo embarked on a co-headlining tour with WRLD, released a few big collaborations and left their imprint on a number of respectable EDM labels (including Lowly Palace, Armada and Deadbeats). Oh, and let’s not forget, SMLE also earned their first Grammy nomination within that timespan.

Last November, the future bass outfit joined the likes of legends when their remix of Bobby Rush’s “Funk O’ De Funk” was officially recognized by the Recording Academy as a contender for “Best Remixed Recording” of the year.

Needless to say, SMLE decided to make the most of this opportunity and packed their bags for NYC to attend the famed award ceremony. They sadly didn’t end up winning the award, but at the end of the day, SMLE still gets to hold a title that most EDM artists can only dream of holding.

Right on the heels of their Grammy experience, SMLE has teamed up with Monstercat once again to release their new single “2 Me.”

While SMLE has had a certain radiance in their music from the start, it hasn’t always come out in the most extraordinary way. In fact, some of the duo’s past contributions to the future bass genre are barely distinguishable from the work that so many others have done before them.

However, “2 Me” is different. The song sees SMLE finally veering away from the the future bass formula, rounding out as a vibrant blend of indie dance, nu disco, R&B, future bass and jazz.

While the song maintains that bright, cheery vibe that has made us keep coming back to SMLE, “2 Me” is a clear step up for the duo. Don’t let the catchy topline from Kiddo AI fool you, this song’s challenging chord structures and ripping instrumental solos (brought to you by the talented Nick Smith) give it some serious compositional complexity.

“2 Me” is the kind of song that truly cements SMLE in as a deserved Grammy-nominee. If they keep this up, they just might be heading back to the ceremony again next year.
