Sam Gellaitry’s “Long Distance” Making Waves Again After Huge Super Bowl Ad

Sam Gellaitry - young ex-protege of Los Angeles-based record label Soulection - has had quite a year. Following the release of his acclaimed freshman EP, Escapism, he heads into 2016 with a premiere opening spot on Mr. Carmack’s North American tour. As of several months ago, Sam is also managed by XL Recordings, now sharing the roster with such acts as Adele, Vampire Weekend, Radiohead, The XX and more. With a style all his own and a quickly amassing following, 2016 looks extremely bright for this Scottish producer. Photo: Simbayu

Sam Gellaitry‘s “Long Distance” plays out as the theme for one of the most delightfully awkward Super Bowl commercials we’ve ever seen…

In Diet Coke‘s new Twisted Mango ad, the “basic white girl” below takes a sip of the drink before busting into a really off-putting dance. She breaks into her routine with “Long Distance” playing in the background, keeping eye contact locked with the audience just to add an extra layer of weird.

The producer made an instantaneous impact on the music industry with “Long Distance” two years ago — and now it’s making waves again in a big way. We know this won’t be the last we hear of Gellaitry.
