Lorde Takes Out Full-Page Ad In Paper Honoring Women Following Grammys

Lorde wants to thank her fans for loving and embracing her Grammy-nominated album Melodrama — and most importantly, for supporting women in music.

The star has penned a hand-written letter in the wake of her Grammy’s snub, taking out a full-page ad in the New Zealand Herald:

“I just wanted to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for loving & embracing Melodrama the way you did.”

“Thank you also for believing in female musicians. You set a beautiful precedent.”

Lorde brought up a powerful conversation about female representation after she wasn’t asked to perform solo at the awards ceremony. Basically, she wanted to sing one of her own songs from her Best Album nominated Melodrama, but the Recording Academy didn’t have room for her.

Recording Academy President Neil Portnow was quoted in saying:

“I think it has to begin with women who have the creativity in their hearts and souls, who want to be musicians, who want to be engineers, who want to be producers, who want to be part of the industry on the executive level to step up.”

Well, now it’s Lorde’s time to talk…
