Sweden’s Sad Eye is set to release his first single of 2018, ‘Chemistry.’ This uplifting track has been together with Ted Nights and Swedish Red Elephant, and Sad Eye tells us more about the story behind the music.
Hey Sad Eye, good to chat to you! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself as an artist… what makes your sound unique?
My name is Sad Eye, as you know. I’m 31 years old and I live in between Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden. As we speak, it’s snowing and I’m finishing off my next release aiming for April/May. My sound has always been varied, but with focus on touching vocals telling a story and big melodies.
What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned since you started making music? What have been some of the challenges so far?
I’ve been trying not to invest too many feelings in things happening until I know it’s actually going to happen. So many releases, collabs and remixes have never seen the daylight because of other people’s decisions. I’m always trying to keep moving forward and focusing on the future releases.
Do you remember what first got you into wanting to create music? Was there a specific track or artist that inspired you?
Music has always been that special thing triggering my feelings and taking me to other places. I think Ibiza made me want to create music. There’s something special about the island and the years around 2008 – 2011 was very special to me. The fact that I started DJ’ing 17 years ago is probably a big reason as well.
Your new single ‘Chemistry’ is such an awesome track, and just makes us want to dance. How long did it take you to put together?
Firstly, thanks, glad you liked it! We started working on the track in April 2017 here in my villa where I have my studio. We were all hungover from the last night’s session and of course from my splendid whiskey sours. The sun was shining and we sat on my balcony around lunch switching from coffee to beer while Håkan played the guitar and Louise sang (S.R.E). After an hour, the whole track was written. We went down to the studio and started recording. After finishing off a demo, we put it away for a while, and after a couple of months in September Ted decided to add the trumpets and the new piano. After that, the track felt perfect.
What’s the story behind it?
To summarise it… it was a balcony, a couple of hungover friends, beer, sun, Spring, a guitar, and Louise’s lovely voice.
Did you enjoy working with Ted Nights and Swedish Red Elephant on it?
Definitely. Both Ted Nights and Swedish Red Elephant are extremely talented and hard working and they have got some huge stuff going on. We’re all working on more releases together and I’m glad to have these guys as my friends.
What can we expect from you in 2018?
I want to release at least 3 tracks this year. I have a lot of tracks in the pipeline and some festivals coming up this summer!
