The family of a New Jersey man who died in police custody has settled a lawsuit with the local police for in an excessive force case for a total of $350,000.
According to the report, Timothy J. Harden of Belmar, was volunteering at Souper Groove music festival back in Sept. 5, 2015 when he experienced a “medical or psychiatric episode.” Court papers described an incident where the victim became agitated and when police arrived the situation escalated.
The suit alleged Harden was beaten and choked to excess — he reportedly had a thyroid cartilage fracture, bruises, and constitutions to show for it.
The unnamed officers involved were never identified to the public; however, they were cleared of any wrongdoing by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office‘s standards. They ruled Harden’s death as a result of “drug-induced excited delirium.”
The family has settled in court for the claimed police brutality case. Harden’s family has also opened up two suits against the Priedaine New Jersey Latvian Society and the organizers of Souper Groove, both of which are still in progress.
