The talented Dion Timmer has joined us for a chat this week, and he tells us a little more about the making of his latest EP Textacy, which features some thrilling bass cuts.
Hey Dion! Big ups for chatting to us. Can you tell us a little bit about your journey in music, from where you started out to where you are right now?
Hey! Of course, it’s a pleasure! I started out listening to artists like Bare Noize, Skrillex, deadmau5 and 16bit back in 2010. Around that time I started fiddling around in FL Studio (which I still use!) and started making my own stuff when I was about 11 or 12. Nothing too crazy, though. When I was 14 I started collaborating with artists like AFK and Excision, thats when it really took off for me, the rest is history 🙂
What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned along the way? What are you still working on?
Having patience is one of the key elements of becoming a successful DJ/Producer, most things don’t really come overnight. Also not being influenced too much by ‘what’s hot right now’ is a key thing; you don’t want to sound like everyone else. 
Which artists have inspired you over the past twelve years?
Artists like Moody Good, Michael Jackson, Skrillex, Kill The Noise and The M Machine really helped me get inspired to create my own sound.
Congratulations on your new EP, it’s a banger! It sees you take a couple of different directions with tracks like ‘Cyan.’ What inspired the collection?
Thank you! I have been making songs like ‘Cyan’ and ‘Textacy’ for a good while now but I feel it’s hard to put out stuff like that during the current state of music. There’s so much music easily available to anyone, which causes people to only really accept what they expect from you. I’ve always loved making the poppy/dance-y tracks and maybe even more than making dubstep bangers, I guess I was just too afraid to put them out. I’m glad I did though, people seem to be enjoying them.
Can you see yourself continuing to explore new styles and sounds in the future?
This style has always been my sound that I try to go back to in every release. In the future I will definitely try and mix it up with other sounds and styles.
What makes your sound unique, and how do you want your music to make people to feel?
Mysterious high-pitched voices and techy uplifting melodies are usually the core to my sound. I always try to express the mysterious ‘neon’ vibe as much as I can in my tracks.
What are your best musical memories and highlights from 2017?
Definitely Lost Lands; probably the biggest show I have played so far. Also doing the Excision tour and touring on my own have been amazing experiences this year.
Now that we’re about to head in to 2018, what do you have lined up for us next year? Is there anything in particular you’re set on achieving over the next twelve months?
So far I have achieved most, if not all achievements I set when I started out. This year I will try to get the ‘Dion Timmer Experience’ to the next level. I can’t say too much about that yet. I’m also releasing a load of new music and collabs as well as a remix EP of the Textacy EP!
