Ed Sheeran Becomes First Artist To Reach 1 Billion Plays On Spotify With 2 Tracks

ed sheeran ed sheeran

Ed Sheeran just became the first artist in music history to have more than one song hit one billion streams on Spotify!

The singer/songwriter’s massive 2014 hit “Thinking Out Loud” has officially racked up a billion plays and counting, joining his more recent 2017 smash “Shape of You.” While the latter clocked in millions of plays in its first day, the newest song in the billion play club has steadily been racking up streams for years.

“Thinking Out Loud” becomes the 6th track to reach 1 billion plays. Sheeran joins the likes of Justin Bieber and The Chainsmokers, who both hit the 1 billion mark with “Sorry” and “Closer,” respectively. Both acts are close to doing it again, with the Biebs’ “Love Yourself” and The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down.”

This is quite a milestone accomplishment for Sheeran, especially in our music stream-driven world and considering Spotify is the world’s most popular streaming platform.

We have a feeling this won’t be the last time Ed Sheeran hits a billion plays!
