Monstercat Releases “Best of 2017” Compilation

2018 is less than two weeks away, which means that Monstercat‘s biggest year yet is coming to a close.

Throughout 2017, the Vancouver-based label unleashed surprise after surprise, with no sign of slowing down. This year, Monstercat totally revamped their compilation series (complete with a new artwork style and new lines of merch), held label showcases across the globe (including stages at both EDC & Tomorrowland), and – most importantly – had a ton of absolutely unbelievable releases.

Among those debuting in 2017 were OokayGareth EmeryBassnectarKill The Noise and Infected Mushroom, though loads (and I mean LOADS) of smaller artists found a home on the Monstercat roster too.

A couple weeks ago, Monstercat opened voting for their annual “Best of” compilation. While Monstercat has traditionally had fans vote for their favorite overall songs at the end of the year, the label did things a little different this time around. Instead of voting on the best songs of the year, participants gave their 10 favorite artists and then chose a favorite song by them.

Needless to say, this caused some rather unexpected results. To just  about everyone’s surprise, some of the year’s most statistically popular tracks (notably “Saving Light” and “Watch Out“) didn’t even make the cut. However, songs by smaller-name producers like Bad Computer, Notaker and Bishu had no problem securing spots on the tracklist.

If the results of this Best of 2017 album say anything, I think it’s that Monstercat’s fanbase tends to prefer smaller, more residential artists over bigger, one-off artists. But hey, Infected Mushroom still made the tracklist, so what do I know?

Monstercat: Best of 2017 is out now. Check out the full compilation below:
