YouTube has come along leaps and bounds when compared to other popular forms of social media, especially among 12 – 17 year olds.

The video streaming website, which allows personal channels, uploads, comments, and more, is the most popular social platform among the young age group. Music videos, game reviews, bloggers, comedians, tutorials, and more are all uploaded to YouTube on a daily basis for entertainment and information purposes.

A commanding 96% of 12 to 17-year-olds visit the site, up from 87% back in 2014. Many even come back to YouTube several times a day — 61% or so, compared to just 40% in 2014. This, according to a report from research company Forrester made available by Marketing Dive.

The report also reveals Instagram and Snapchat as the second most popular social medias, with nearly 70% of the age group engaging in each. Again, 40% of these same users come back for more, multiple times a day. Snapchat’s young users see it as “important” for keeping in touch with friends.

The report via Marketing Dive also finds that 51% of 12 and 13-year-olds think it’s cool to be associated with brands on social media platforms. Whereas only 38% of 16 and 17-year-olds think following or liking a brand is cool.
