A New 24-Hour Helpline Is Taking Calls To Support Mental Health In The Music Industry

Wikimedia Commons

In an effort to support mental health in the music industry, Help Musicians UK has launched a new phone line specifically for musicians, managers, labels and tour crew who need to talk.

The service is part of the organization’s Music Minds Matter campaign — an effort that launched following the death of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. He took his own life back in July after a long struggle with depression.

Being part of the music industry isn’t easy, especially for artists in the spotlight. Help Musicians UK’s health and welfare team recently experienced a 22% rise in requests for help directly from musicians.

The organization also headed up the research behind Can Music Make You Sick?, the largest known academic study to examine the mental health within Britain’s music industry. The study found that musicians are three times more likely to suffer from depression.

Thus, the launch of the 24-hour helpline.

Those needing help and/or emotional support can contact the Music Minds Matter line 24 hours a day, seven days a week, free of charge at 0808 802 8008.
